I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! Mine was great, but before I tell you about that, I’m going to throw it back to Monday!
Monday was a lot of the same as last week. I ran some errands, worked a little, applied for jobs, and I also went on a long run! And when I mean “long” I mean 2 miles!! That’s the longest I’ve run without stopping in about 2 years, so I am super proud of myself for that. Granted, it was extremely slow and it was more of a “jog”, but I did it! For me personally I think it’s been the long walks I’ve been going on over the past couple months. When I started I got sore after my 3.5-4 mile walks, and then I stopped being sore! And I’ve been able to run farther than I have in a long time, so I think that’s been the biggest factor in my running.
Tuesday morning I got up early and headed to the court hearing for the girl who hit and killed my family/friend Penny. Penny was hit and killed by a driver (on a wide open road) last year while she was out on a bike ride training for one of her many races. The driver (26 years old) was charged with careless driving. That’s it. A vehicular homicide charge and a misdemeanor texting-while-driving charge was dropped. One of the experts they brought in said TWO text messages were opened within a minute of Penny being hit and killed, and the driver says she wasn’t texting…… so for hitting and killing someone she gets 30 days in the county jail and probation. It’s obviously not what anyone of us wanted, but I’m honestly surprised she got any jail time at all. You can read the story here and find other related articles as well.
For lunch, I met up with my cousin at Panera and we went over resume and application tips and tricks since she just changed jobs as well! During lunch, I received a call from a marketing company called Champion Promotions and they wanted me to come in and interview for one of their positions! I was super excited and we set up a time for the next day.
Wednesday I spent my morning putting together my reference list and and then headed to my interview at 1130. The second I stepped in the door I knew this place wasn’t going to be for me. When I walked in, the front desk lady took my resume then asked me to fill out a sheet that required the exact same information (note I had also emailed my resume when applying). I then sat down next two two other people who were also there for an interview (they had to go before me and I arrived 10 minutes before my time slot). Then, another kid walked in behind me! They all looked like they were maybe 18, and much younger than myself. After sitting there for a few minutes, the interviewer came out and got the first girl and you could hear their interview through the door! He offered her to come back and job shadow on Monday, then he came out and did the same to the second girl! All the while the girl at the front desk called probably 10 people in the 10 minutes I was sitting there asking them to come in and interview. I walked out before they could call my name. I was shocked at how unprofessional and fake their first impression was, and I knew that even if I was interviewing for a different job than the others, I wouldn’t want to work for a company that makes an impression like that. After that, I went out to my car and started bawling. Job searching is so hard and the unknown is SCARY. I called my dad and explained the situation, then we met up and went and picked up my sister from school! Afterwards we went to MOA to eat at Cadillac Ranch, then went to the North Face store so Lindsay could look at jackets. Once I got home, I headed to Kelli’s to babysit her daughter!
We had a fun time playing hide and seek (she’s good), playing Chutes ‘n Ladders, and building a blanket fort!
I know I’m horrible, but I didn’t get any Thanksgiving pictures. I took one (more like 20) with Lindsay, but she didn’t like how she looked in them so she deleted them…. But I went to my parents house in the morning, then headed to Mark’s Thanksgiving late afternoon and hung out with them the rest of the night!
When I woke up Friday morning I decided I wanted to go Black Friday shopping! In high school I went a couple of years at like 5 am when stores used to open (way too early). I now go later and decide the day of if I’m going because 1) Stores open up WAY TOO EARLY and 2) I’ve realized that unless I want some huge electronic deal (which is never) that I can get the same deals later in the morning! It was a great day of shopping and I got almost everyone on my list done! I first went to MOA, then headed to World Market to pick up part of my mom’s and Mark’s mom’s presents, then last headed to Target where I always get their doorbuster movies! I got Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 for only $4 and Central Intelligence which was only a couple dollars more. I haven’t seen either and I’m super excited to watch them! It’ll be perfect for the horribly cold January weekends.
I spent the rest of the day watching the new Gilmore Girl’s episodes and setting up Christmas decorations!! Let me tell ya… SO GOOD if you haven’t watched them. If you haven’t watched Gilmore Girls you need to give it a shot! The last 4 words shocked me, and I’m wishing that it’s a prequel to something else.
Saturday I spent the morning relaxing and working on more decorations! (I love this time of year for festive decorations) I like my house feeling like a winter wonderland when it’s cold! That afternoon, my family picked me up because we were going to see A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie theatre! We first went to Kramarczuk’s for a late lunch/early dinner and I had the super yummy Ukrainian meatballs with mushroom sauce! I ate about half the meatball because it was HUGE and shared with the fam! Also, the amount of potatoes…. can it really get any better?? I was so full.
We walked around and explored a different part of Mpls that I’ve never really explored before. We walked across the Stone Arch Bridge, and went to Izzy’s Ice Cream! (It’s the best.)
Their Salted Caramel is to die for, but I wanted something light so I got Raspberry Sorbet with an Izzy scoop of vanilla bean! It was perfect.
Afterwards we went to the Guthrie and saw the play! They did a great job. I hadn’t been there since high school!
Today was spent doing laundry and catching up on house stuff! I also made some amazing meatballs for dinner: *1 lb ground beef *1/4 c original stuffing (I didn’t have bread crumbs… same thing) *1 egg *1 tsp italian seasoning *1/2 tsp garlic powder *salt and pepper to taste. I sent those along with jarred tomato sauce and some bowtie pasta along with Mark for work!
I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving! What did you do for the holiday? Did you go Black Friday shopping and find some amazing deals?
