Happy Friday! I hope you all have something fun planned for this weekend. I’ve got the state fair to eat yummy foods, errands, and a few other stops, but overall a pretty fun and relaxing weekend for the most part! I’m so excited to be bringing my first book review to you. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m so excited to share my find with you!
The book is called The Island written by Elin Hilderbrand. It’s along the lines of your typical love story, yet there’s just something different about it. I won’t give away too much, but I want to share my thoughts with you!
This book surrounds a mom, her two kids (both adults), and her sister. Originally when I picked up this book, I read the front which says “It was supposed to be the perfect getaway…”. Granted, I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I took it as something was going to take a horrible turn at some point in the book. That didn’t happen. I won’t give you any more details, but all I will say is that it was a story about this family that goes to their family cottage on the island after some horrific events, and they really bond over the summer. Yes, there are a few love affairs, and that’s the romantic side of it. I loved this because it really took a journey into each individuals’ life and really highlighted their issues and how they handled (or didn’t handle) them.
Overall I would say this book is definitely worth a read if you want to have a book on hand. For me personally, it wasn’t page-turning, which is why it took me a while to finish, but I still thought it was good overall!
Honestly, I’m just really happy that I was able to finish a book this summer! Working two jobs, working out, and trying to get a good nights rests takes precedence. (Netflix, ahem). I’ve set a new goal for myself to read more. I haven’t quite figured how or when I will fit in the time, but I will. I really do enjoy it and I can’t wait to bring you my next review!
Are there any books that you LOVE and that you think I should read??
Have a great weekend!
